Great for Portability July 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this canoe recently and have tried it on the water. Its a fantastic canoe for people without an ability to transport a regular canoe.
Plusses: 1. Fantastic portability. 2. Inflates quickly and easily. Really does take 10 mins or less. 3. Light - easy to get into/out of the water 4. Sturdy - felt very comfortable and secure
Minuses: 1. Is VERY difficult to get back into the bag. Suggestion: buy a bigger bag. 2. Requires Kayak Paddles - canoe paddles too long. (Not a minus, really - just good to know. Its shaped like a canoe but sits more like a kayak.)
Overall - well worth the price and a great alternative to a traditional canoe.
Nice day on the lake July 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We bought two of these yesterday a red and a green. On the red one the valves were easier to get to and the air chambers lined up better. Once on the water we got blown around a little bit but these are a blast and the fabric cover is really thick. I took my 8 and 10 year old out and my 10 year old paddled his alone really well. My only complaint is the seats are not deep enough and the backs provide zero back support. I am going to see if I can install kayak seats. Inflates quickly with a coleman manual pump. Great fun!
Good value and performance July 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We really like this canoe and think that it is a good value. It takes only about 10 to 15 minutes to unpack, inflate, and be ready to get in the water. Once inflated, the sides are quite hard and sturdy. They are relatively thin, making it look more like a hard canoe. We have taken it out for a 7 mile trip on a river and it is very stable and pretty comfortable. It wouldn't be the best for white water, but for a mild river, it works great. My only complaint is that it is somewhat tricky getting it dried out and back in the travel bag. The bag is approx. 2'x1'x1.5' and 40lbs. packed, and fits easily in my trunk. I would definitely recommend purchasing this canoe.
Excellent quality and warranty February 19, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I own model B801 which might not be the same here, but it looks exactly the same. I have had it for a bit less than a year, so far. We used it extensively over the summer and we are looking forward to use it in the next.
When we bought this canoe we also bought an electric pump as we thought that it will work much better than the manual pump that came with the canoe. However, after inflating it for the first time we were gladly returning the electric pump; I was able to have the canoe fully inflated and ready to go within ten minutes (and not much effort) using only the manual pump.
After using the canoe a lot for several months we had a problem as one of the chambers broke internally: there was no leak of air but it could no longer hold its shape. Where we bought this canoe, it only came with one year manufacturer warranty. Hence, we contacted Stearns customer service: they were very friendly, they gave me a RMA# immediately, and believe it or not, I received a brand new chamber only one week (from Thursday to Thursday) after sending the broken one by mail!
The only negative point is that it is hard to dry it completely. Water gets in the canoe from splashing or from moisture that permeates through the seams. And in turn, this might lead to some smell if you don't wash it and towel dry it periodically.
Anyhow, this is a great product from a great company and I definitely recommend it.
Nifty Canoe for paddling or sailing October 31, 2004 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I just came home from a nice day paddling and sailing with the Stearns inflatable canoe. I'm disgusted with Gary Powell writing negative reviews about boats he never even sat in or saw -- if he had, he would know this boat has 2 little keels on the bottom to help with tracking and that it does not "skitter sideways" all over the pond. And how much of a keel does any canoe have anyway? If you click on his "see my other reviews" link you'll see he has panned several inflatable boats. Are we to believe he's out there buying inflatable boats one after another that he hates? No. He just likes to write reviews and the fact that he knows nothing about a particular product doesn't stop him from saying it's not good. Shame on you Gary Powell!
One nice thing about this boat is how canoeish it looks. They've accomplished this in part by making the side air chambers very tall and skinny. This is very functional also; it means you don't have to reach way out past a fat side air chamber to reach the water with your paddle. But who wants to paddle when you can sail it? Put a SailboatsToGo inflatable canoe/kayak sail rig on it and you can let Mother Nature do the work as you sail all over the lake, including tacking into the wind.
