 Use if you want a nice burn June 6, 2008

My two children and I were in the sun for an hour and fifteen minutes. All three of us came away severely burned. I have used other brands with success and was convinced by the advertisements that this would be even better. Evidently, if you want to use this product, apply in very thick layers and allow lots of drying time before entering the sun.

Wow, this product has a really long name: Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion with Active Photobarrier Complex.
Fortunately, it's also long on protection. "Active Photobarrier Complex" is Aveeno's name for a proprietary formula that combines avobenzone and oxybenzone. Avobenzone is one of the more effective UVA/UVB chemical sunscreens, but it breaks down when exposed to sunlight, effectively robbing you of UVA protection within a couple of hours. Oxybenzone is used here as a photostabilizer, and enables the avobenzone to provide protection for a claimed 5 hours. The same formula is marketed by Neutrogena as "Helioplex." (Both Neutrogena and Aveeno are brands of Johnson & Johnson, hence the shared technology.)
As a sunscreen, this works really well. I work in direct sunlight all day during the work week and have found this sunscreen to be effective and pleasant enough to use. The smell is not strong or objectionable at all. It is a bit weightier of a cream than something like Coppertone, but it rubs in and disappears quickly. The bottle isn't ideal, but I like that the cap allows easy use without leaving a mess or "burping" excess cream out like some bottles do. I'm giving only four stars, however, because one major drawback is that I've noticed this sunscreen tends to leave stains on my t-shirts around the cuffs and neck.
Next, I aim to try the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 55 with Helioplex (another product with a super long name).
 Effective Skin Damage Prevention July 28, 2007
I use Aveeno products everyday. They were recommended by my dermatologist. I have noticed that skin damage due to UV rays from the sun has been prevented. It actually makes skin look younger. The product applies evenly and is not noticeable, if applied properly. It is a great product for me.

I wear this sunscreen everyday in South Florida. It spreads nicely and has a nice scent. I wear it on my face,neck, arms and legs instead of moisturizer. The only thing I don't like about it, it as the end of the tube it is very difficult to get the last 1/4 of the tube out. I also use the Neutrogena dry touch 55, which is drier, obviously.
